Why is this?
When you lift weights, you are actually creating microscopic tears in your muscle fibres. These tears cause the enzymes in your muscle cells, to stimulate inflammation. The inflammation is what creates the pain that you feel. This process generally causes the greatest amount of inflammation 2 days after your workout (commonly known as DOMS, or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), which is why you feel worse before you start to feel better.
